Purpose

In 2000, AYSO National approved the formation of the Pacific Soccer Club (PSC). The purpose of this program is to establish a competitive program within AYSO increasing the retention of AYSO players by offering a "club" program for those players desiring to play at a higher level. Additionally, the "club" program would provide an opportunity to former AYSO members, now participating on "club" teams outside of AYSO, to return to the organization.

PSC is a member of the Coast Soccer League (CSL) as well as the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) – South, the governing body of CSL, giving PSC full league status. PSC is a separately formed and registered non-profit corporation.

While this is a "club" organization, each and every coach, trainer and administrator will be responsible for adhering to the five basic principles of the AYSO philosophy.

PSCC teams established themselves in 2001 (their first season) and will continue to build on this solid foundation in 2007/08 as the program develops and grows.

Coaches, Trainers, and Administrator Requirements

The AYSO Pacific Soccer Club was formed as its own league in order to maintain local control of registration of players and coaches, sponsoring tournaments as well as other local opportunities. As a direct result of the acceptance by PSC of all CYSA-S rules and regulations, our players, coaches, trainers and administrators are licensed by CYSA-S and certified by AYSO. All coaches and trainers participating in the PSCS "club" must complete the CYSA-S risk management program as required in order to obtain the blue "coach pass" necessary at all CYSA-S games. CYSA-S risk management staff will perform fingerprint and police record searches of each applicant prior to certification. Additionally, all coaches comply with the AYSO Safe Haven program. AYSO Pacific Soccer Club coaches have had more training and certification and are subject to more scrutiny than a coach in any other organization. These policies ensure a safe soccer program for all participants.

PSC provides each coach with a qualified trainer who will best fit the profile of his or her particular team.

Cost and Length of Season

The cost for each player will be $675.00 -- $700.00 for the 2007/08 season. This will include AYSO, CSL and CYSA-S Registration Fees, uniforms, referees, trainers, selected tournaments, bonds, etc.

The length of the season is similar to that of other "clubs" in the area. We anticipate starting practice in July, with the older divisions ending league and league cup play in November in order not to conflict with high school, and the younger divisions ending in December or January, depending on League Cup schedules. The younger teams will typically play tournaments in January, in preparation for State Cup in February. The older teams will typically start up after high school commitments are complete and play tournaments in March in preparation for State Cup in April and May.

Team Formation and Recruitment

The PSC organization sponsors team tryouts for their particular age groups allowing the coaches to see players they may not be familiar with, as well as those players who have left AYSO to play on "outside" club teams wishing to come back to AYSO. PSC assists in the advertising and promotion for the respective team tryouts. PSC tryouts occur late February for the younger age groups and late April for the older age groups.

Established AYSO coaches interested in competing at a higher level with their team are encouraged to apply to the PSC organization. The application is available off the web site.

Player Development and Competition

The goal of the "club" system is to allow the players to enjoy the game at a higher level than they would otherwise find within the AYSO organization. The intent is to provide the player with a higher, more qualified training regimen than they are used to, as well as playing against stronger competition. Each team travels within their Area for the season, with more extensive traveling required, as tournaments become available.

Please keep in mind, unlike other "club" organizations, it is the requirement of the PSC organization that each player will have 50% playing time in accordance with AYSO philosophy.

Summary

The AYSO Pacific Soccer Club increases the level of competition for those players who have a desire to compete at the higher level. PSC, unlike many "clubs", is not a profit driven endeavor. PSC is solely interested in the development of the player, while respecting the philosophy under which AYSO was founded and currently operates.

We look forward to your input and participation.
